At the Interior Home + Housewares Show in Chicago March 10-13, the Pantone Color Institute gave attendees a peek at upcoming trends.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone, an international authority on color, predicts classic metallics are moving into neutrals. Anything iridescent, pearlized or translucent is bound to catch the eye, she says in the home furnishings publication Home Accents Today.
She also sees color trends shifting away from pastels to more vibrant hues. “Intense colors seem to be a natural application of our intense lifestyles and thought processes these days,” she says.
In terms of design, Eiseman highlighted the use of letters and words as design elements, the use of triangles in contemporary and retro themes, and diamonds with dimension and intricate details, which may be influenced by 3-D printing, the article notes. Wood treatments are “very unique and really artful” and fringe is “very hot and very strong,” Eiseman says.
