They love them so much, in fact, that people spend time doing a number of things in their bedrooms and on their beds that, technically, should be reserved for sleeping and sex.
“The lounging that was once done from the comfort of our living rooms has shifted over to our bedrooms,” says lifestyle expert Elizabeth Mayhew in a news release from online luxury bedding retailer Saatva. “There’s a great sense of ease and convenience in being able to catch up on missed TV shows, watch a movie or work from your bed before drifting off.”
Toluna, a research insights firm, surveyed 1,000 Americans about sleep and adjustable bases on behalf of the Westport, Connecticut-based company. Here’s a sample of the findings.
- Activities performed in bed include watching a TV show/movie (66%), browsing the internet (60%), checking email (57%), checking social media accounts (54%) and reading (40%).
- Seventy-three percent of respondents say they would rather unwind in their own bed than anywhere else.
- Sixty percent agree they would rather watch a show/movie in their bed than on the sofa.
- Forty-five percent wish they could do more daily activities in bed.
- Sixty-six percent agree the hardest part of doing these activities in their bed is getting comfortable.
