Thread and technical textiles supplier American & Efird, with headquarters in Mount Holly, North Carolina, now offers anti-counterfeiting sewing threads created in collaboration with Applied DNA Sciences.
The new anti-counterfeiting thread was developed using Applied’s CertainT platform, which employs molecular level tagging so companies can check to be sure specified components are used in product manufacturing. It was introduced by American & Efird at ISPA EXPO 2018 March 14-16 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
By specifying the new A&E thread technology, mattress companies can be certain of the safety, integrity and compliance of sewn seams on their products, especially when part or all of the sewing and assembly process are outsourced, the company said in a news release.
Applied is a Stony Brook, New York-based “provider of molecular technologies that enable supply chain security, anti-counterfeiting and anti-theft technology, product genotyping and DNA mass production for diagnostics and therapeutics,” the news release said.
A&E is the largest U.S. manufacturer and the world’s second-largest manufacturer and distributor of premium quality industrial and consumer sewing thread, embroidery thread and technical textiles. Through its global network, A&E’s products are manufactured in 21 countries and sold in more than 100.
