Towaco, New Jersey-based Bäumer of America, a manufacturer and distributor of foam fabrication equipment, has named Uwe Scharfy chief executive officer.
He reports to Jan Leisse, CEO of Bäumer’s parent company, Albrecht Bäumer GmbH & Co., with headquarters in Freudenberg, Germany.
Scharfy replaces Philipp Schuster, who returned to Germany to be closer to family.
Previously, Scharfy was chief financial officer for Heinrich Georg, a privately owned equipment maker based in Kreuztal, Germany. He had been with the company for 22 years, starting as an apprentice and working his way up through a range of positions. While with Heinrich Georg, he spent three years in Germany, 18 years in various parts of the United States and one year in Beijing. His responsibilities and achievements there included building and growing various business segments, starting a joint venture and overseeing acquisitions.
Commenting on Scharfy’s appointment, Leisse said: “Uwe has been a great addition and fit to the Bäumer company. His experience level is fundamental for Bäumer of America in the continuously changing North America market. I am pleased that he has joined our team, and we are looking forward to his developments in the USA.”
Scharfy said: “Making the move to a new position and a new company after 22 years with one company (even though different locations) was something that was totally new to me. I have to say that I am very excited that I made this move, and the employees of Bäumer in the USA and Germany have been very supportive of me and they are a great team to work with. There are many exciting times ahead for Bäumer of America and for the future of the Bäumer company in general. I am both proud and honored … to be part of this continued development and to help shape and grow the company for the future.”
