Willowbrook, Illinois-based mattress maker King Koil celebrated the opening of a 90,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Avondale, Arizona, that employs 50. It also announced it has added significant business from Southern California retailer Sit ’n Sleep.
Sit ’n Sleep has 39 retail stores and is based in Gardena, California. The chain is buying 23 King Koil models that range from moderate to luxury price points. All beds are made at the new Avondale plant, which services 17 Western states.
In 2015, King Koil was acquired by one of its licensees, Malaysia-based Kaiserkorp Corp. This year it announced a switch in its U.S. business model from licensing group to mattress manufacturer. However, longtime licensee Blue Bell Mattress Co., headquartered in East Windsor, Connecticut, continues to service King Koil retailers in the East and Midwest.
