Mlily, a mattress and pillow manufacturer that is part of Healthcare Co. Ltd., based in Rugao, China, held a January event celebrating its Mlily USA operation in Winnsboro, South Carolina. The company opened the U.S. headquarters and a 650,000-square-foot plant in mid-2019.
When the U.S. facility first opened, it employed 25; currently, it employs 73 and will ramp up to 250 employees by year-end, the company said. Plans are to have the plant produce all beds sold in the U.S. market. Currently, an Mlily plant in Thailand manufactures a portion of the Mlily products sold in the United States.
Two hundred state, county and local officials joined Mlily customers and suppliers at the grand opening. The Chinese company has invested nearly $50 million in the factory, which will produce mattresses, as well as components, such as foams and springs.
“This is an exciting time for our company as we continue to grow in the United States,” said James Ni, Healthcare chair and chief executive officer. “Our U.S. customers will (soon) be able to get their products from Winnsboro, made by American workers. The investment in this factory allows us to develop and supply Mlily products that appeal to U.S. consumers and provides us with the opportunity to expand our product reach in this country. I’m thankful to our leadership team and employees for the work in getting this plant ready and operational, as well as to the local and state government officials who have welcomed us into the community.
