Progressive Products Inc., a division of textile supplier Bekaert Textiles USA Inc., headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with world headquarters in Waregem, Belgium, has opened a new 100,000-square-foot production facility in Tijuana, Mexico.
PPI, a cut-and-sew operation founded in 1998 and acquired by Bekaert in 2012, manufactures sewn mattress covers, zippered covers, sewn point-of-sale items for top of bed, as well as finished pillows and upholstered foundations.
PPI has had production in Tijuana for a decade, and continues to operate plants in Riverside, California, and Ixtacuixtla, Mexico; it also has a rapid-prototyping center in Winston-Salem.
The new Tijuana facility, known as Progressive Products Mexico, is in Otay Mesa Business Park, about one mile from the U.S.-Mexico border.
“(We have) invested heavily in new state-of-the-art equipment and personnel to position ourselves as a leader for contract cut and sew,” said Will Creekmuir, PPI sales and marketing director. “PPI is fully integrated in the Bekaert organization and, through the joint expertise of both organizations, offers innovative covers and pillows backed up by a strong focus on quality and quick delivery.”
In addition to customers, vendors and Bekaert executives, a number of Mexican government officials attended the plant’s official opening Feb. 16, including Rufo Ibarra Batista, federal delegate of the Ministry of Economy for Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto; Carlo Bonfante Olache, secretary of economic development for Baja California; and Tijuana mayor, Jorge Enrique Astiazaran Orcí.
