Los Angeles-based Sonno Bed, which launched this year, is a vertically integrated e-commerce startup that is unique because it sells a two-sided mattress with different comforts on each side.
In addition to a mattress, the company manufactures and sells an upholstered, footed platform foundation and a fiberfill pillow. In queen sizes, the lineup retails, at the Sonno Bed website (SonnoBed.com), for $875, $460 and $65, respectively.
The company said it manufactures all of its products in Los Angeles from domestically sourced components.
Sonno also is different from other online mattress retailers because it is seeking wholesale and private label opportunities for its flagship products. The wholesale drop-ship program requires no minimum order, the stocking dealer program requires a three-piece opening order, the warehouse program requires a 25-piece opening order, and a private label program also is available. Product ships in two to three business days to a store location, via ground, small-parcel delivery.
The Sonno mattress has a high-density polyurethane foam core topped on both sides by a layer of gel memory foam and then a layer of latex foam. One side of the bed offers a medium comfort level, and the shopper can select soft or firm for the opposite side of the two-sided bed. The bed’s removal double-knit panel fabric is machine washable. The gray, upholstered borders coordinate with the upholstery on the modern wood-slat foundation.
The Sonno foundation can be used on a standard bed frame or it functions as a divan, when used with its removable 6-inch tapered, hardwood legs. The pillow is adjustable. Owners can unzip the inner cover and remove fiberfill.
