A soft record breaker
Remember setting up a chain of dominos as a child just to watch them fall?
Well, the folks at Aaron’s Inc., an appliance and electronics store based in Atlanta, took that idea to a whole new level.
At the company’s annual manager’s meeting at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center in National Harbor, Maryland on March 22, more than 1,000 people with 1,200 mattresses created a human mattress domino chain that broke a Guinness World Record. The previous record of 1,150 mattresses was set in 2012.
The effort was successful on its first attempt, taking 13 minutes and 38 seconds from start to finish.
Planning for the event began in November.
“We were trying to think of a team-building event that would involve a large number of managers,” said Garet Hayes, director of public relations, in an ABC News story.
The company worked with its manufacturer to make and ship all of the mattresses and hired “Domino Wizard” Robert Speca to design the chain, according to ABC.
The mattresses were donated to Washington, D.C.-area organizations helping those in need.
