The eighth annual Art Van Charity Challenge drew 147 Midwestern charities focused on children, health care and human services.
The 10 nonprofit organizations able to raise the most money shared $225,000 in prize grants from Art Van Furniture, ranging in size from $1,500 to $100,000.
The retailer also donated $79,000 in bonus grants, which were awarded to winning charities in special competitions throughout the program.
Art Van’s donations totaled $304,000.
Since 2008, the Warren, Michigan-based retailer has donated
$8 million and raised $22 million for more than 350 charities through the Art Van Charity Challenge.
Here is how the 2016 Art Van Charity Challenged worked:
- The Challenge set a fundraising goal for participating charities of raising $3 million in five weeks, May 19 through June 22.
- The 147 participating charities competed to raise the most money. The organizations’ are focused on children, health care and human services issues.
- The 10 nonprofits that raised the most money shared the $225,000 grant from Art Van. Art Van awarded an additional $79,000 in bonus grants to winning charities in special competitions.
- Home furnishings executive and former supermodel Cindy Crawford acted as ambassador of the 2016 Art Van Charity Challenge.
