Special delivery Mattress Firm employees wearing red shirts, along with volunteers and residents of The Arc Jacksonville, teamed up to unload two truckloads of mattresses, foundations and bed frames donated by Tempur Sealy and Mattress Firm.
In June, Lexington, Kentucky-based Tempur Sealy, with the help of Houston-based Mattress Firm, donated 160 Tempur-Pedic mattresses, as well as foundations and metal bed frames, to developmentally disabled adults who are served by The Arc Jacksonville, based in Jacksonville, Florida.
The beds furnished the newly built Arc Jacksonville Village, a community for developmentally disabled adults, as well as several of the nonprofit’s group homes in the area. The Arc Jacksonville is part of the Washington-based national nonprofit whose mission is to assist the intellectually and developmentally disabled.
“We are grateful for the generosity of Tempur Sealy and Mattress Firm in helping make ‘dreams come true’ for the residents of The Arc Jacksonville Village and their families,” said Jim Whittaker, executive director of The Arc Jacksonville. “More than 10 years were required to bring the concept for an affordable, independent living community for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reality. The generous donation of Tempur-Pedic and Mattress Firm will ensure the residents of the village will rest easy and fully enjoy the new life this development offers them.”
Tempur Sealy spokesman Rick Maynard said, “(We were) honored to play a small role in this amazing project. It’s inspiring to think about the lives that are being changed—and the independence that people with disabilities can now enjoy. … Our company donates thousands of Tempur-Pedic beds to charities each year, and we are glad that some of those beds will now help residents of The Arc Jacksonville Village. When the great people at Mattress Firm found out about the Village’s need, they were happy to step up and donate bed frames and foundations.”
