Tempur Sealy International Inc. will build its third domestic U.S. foam-pouring plant in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Construction on the 130-acre site will begin in the fall.
The Lexington, Kentucky-based mattress major said it expects to employ about 300 in Crawfordsville and will fund the project from operating cash. Plant production will begin in 2023, and the output will enhance TSI’s ability to service customers in the Northeast.
The new plant will be 700,000 square feet, with the ability to expand to 1 million square feet, which would make it TSI’s largest manufacturing facility in the world.
Earlier this year, the company opened a new Sealy manufacturing plant in Dallas. Before year end, it plans to open a new Sherwood manufacturing plant in the Northeast and a new West Coast facility.
“We selected (Crawfordsville) based on the robust business climate fostered by the state and local government, the quality of life the city of Crawfordsville provides its citizens and the property’s access to major transportation routes,” said Scott Thompson, TSI chair and chief executive officer. “The facility will have the capabilities to manufacture a wide variety of bedding products and components for branded (Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Stearns & Foster) and nonbranded (product).”
